The Complete integrated message and status system.
The Sign control system is a modular system based around an inhouse S2J created board that can control a variety of LED functionality in various format and configurations.
A use case, Western Australia have a requirement, needing electronic Fire Danger Rating signs.
A 4 colour zoned LED displaying Green (Moderate), Yellow (High), Orange (Extreme) and Red (Catastrophic) with a two-line full graphic LED matrix 128x64. When no FDR rating is available, or no warning is currently active then no FDR zones are lit and a white bar is displayed. The FDR rating is automatically updated from BOM every morning at a configurable time, based on the zone setting for the display.
More lines can be accommodated to the text LED area or simplification by completely removal of the text, based on the customers’ requirements.
Due to the modular nature of the unit any configuration can be achieved
with minimal additional costs involved as the requirements for
the change is a matter of changing the Front Silkscreen image and internal mounting holes if the end requirements fit into the same chassis footprint.
We can also offer an extended version with an additional matrix sign that is attached below the main sign to display community related messages or even commercial messages.
Enclosure, Silkscreen, Covering and Colours
Each FDR sign comprises of a lockable hinged cabinet with various holes cut on the front for the LED displays, air flow heat management louvered holes on the
side/bottom with insect mesh on any exposed holes and a few cable-holes to the Solar and antennas.
Behind the front panel is a 6mm Polycarbonate sheet to protect against high-speed objects and environment ingress.
The cabinet comprises of 3mm Powder coated aluminum with a coating of Armor Guard or similar anti-graffiti coating.
The Polycarbonate has a layer of anti-graffiti film to allow for easy clean and or replacement.
Safety
The display features continuous monitoring of light levels – and will adjust the brightness of the LEDs accordingly to avoid blinding on-coming traffic. The columns holding the display case have a frangible column design with a slip base design. On impact the column will fail at ground level and allow the case to topple over the vehicle as it passes underneath. The display also continuously monitors both the internal and external temperatures – and will shut down the LEDs when temperatures exceed the battery safe operating temperature range to prevent thermal run-away of the batteries. It will also shut down the cooling FANs when external temperatures exceed internal temperatures (like in the event of a passing fire front) to avoid sucking hot air into the case.
Remote Management and Monitoring
Displays are remotely managed via a web site. The web site allows the owner of the sign to:
- Set a few messages to display in the text area
- Set a start and end date for messages so that they are only displayed within the date window defined.
- Monitor the battery state of charge, the solar panel performance, and thermal levels.
- Messages and control can also be updated via a REST API, an RSS feed, and other means.
- Set the Indicator to show depending on a third party set of data. For example Setting the FDR level based on Met service fire index or Set water level indicator based on remote damn level
- Override the Automatic Indicator to manually set a level
